Local Anesthesia Failure in Dentistry: Key Risk Factors Identified

A new study published in the International Endodontic Journal identifies key patient and procedural factors linked to local anesthesia failure during nonsurgical endodontic treatment. Analyzing data from over 1,700 patients, researchers found that dental fear, age under 55, treatment of mandibular teeth, and a greater number of abnormal pre-treatment clinical findings were all associated with increased failure rates. Patients treated by an endodontist showed a significantly lower risk, highlighting the protective role of specialist care. The authors recommend pre-treatment fear screening and proactive anesthetic strategies for patients presenting with multiple clinical risk factors.
