ORTHO Connect: Biphasic Theory and Saturation Point: breakthroughs in understanding tooth movement (Online, 19 November 2026)
About this event
ORTHO Connect is an exclusive IADR webinar that presents cutting-edge research on the biology of tooth movement, challenging the long-standing compression-tension theory with a novel Biphasic Theory framework. This specialized session brings together leading researchers and clinicians to discuss how osteoclasts resorb bone during a Catabolic Phase that precedes and overlaps an Anabolic Phase, which restores alveolar bone to normal levels.
The webinar explores the critical concept of saturation of the biological response, demonstrating that both animal and human studies show a threshold beyond which additional force fails to elicit further tooth movement, fundamentally changing how orthodontists approach treatment planning and biomechanics. Attendees will gain understanding of the scientific evidence supporting the Biphasic Theory and learn how these breakthroughs in understanding tooth movement biology can be applied to modify clinical practices and optimize patient outcomes.
The session is led by Cristina Teixeira from CTOR Academy in the USA, presenting on advances in the biology of tooth movement, with moderation by Maria Cadenas from KU Leuven University in Belgium. Dr. Cadenas is an Associate Professor in the section of Orthodontics at KU Leuven, heading the Research Group of Orthodontics since 2019, which has attracted over 2.1 million EUR in research funding and includes seven PhDs and one Post-Doc.
The webinar specifically addresses the clinical implications of these biological advances and how they can be used to modify biomechanics to optimize orthodontic treatment outcomes. This webinar is limited to current IADR members and represents the highest level of evidence-based research in contemporary orthodontics, offering participants the opportunity to learn directly from recognized experts in the field.

Why Attend
This webinar offers orthodontic specialists and general practitioners an opportunity to learn about paradigm-shifting research that directly impacts clinical decision-making.
The Biphasic Theory represents a fundamental reconceptualization of how tooth movement occurs at the biological level, moving beyond the century-old compression-tension model. Attending provides access to the latest scientific evidence from leaders in orthodontic research, including Dr. Maria Cadenas whose research group has attracted substantial international funding and has published over 80 peer-reviewed papers in this field.
Participants will gain practical knowledge on how to modify their biomechanical approaches based on the saturation point concept, potentially improving treatment efficiency and patient outcomes. This exclusive IADR member benefit allows direct engagement with world-class researchers and provides immediate access to evidence that will influence best practices in orthodontic patient care for years to come.
